What is the best way to get over insomnia?

I have been a night owl most of my life and don’t know how to break it.

Remedy For Insomnia: Best Valerian Root brand for insomnia?

I have major insomnia. I was taking melatonin but read something about it affecting the body’ natural ability to produce melatonin in the pineal gland. So, I went and bought a bottle of "Nature’s Way Valerian Root". The first night it worked. Thereafter if didn’t work. If anything, it had a negative effect. I read somewhere in a review that Nature’s Way is a weak form of valerian root. Can anyone recommend a good brand for valerian root?

FYI, I’m not interested in prescription meds. Natural remedies only.
One more thing… I bumped up the dosage a little bit these last couple of nights and have actually fallen asleep. The problem is I don’t stay asleep. Granted, I have a cat problem (neighborhood cats knock on my door in the middle of the night and then leave…since i live in a studio, there is no escape from the disturbance). When I was taking ambien for sleep, I was able to sleep solid through the night. But as I mentioned, I’m really trying to stay away from pharmaceuticals. Thanks.

I have insomnia and my husband is having a fit I don't sleep next to him.?

I refuse to lie awake in the dark and go crazy when I can be online,watch tv or read a book.I am going to the doctor soon to be treated for this.What can I do in the meantime to make him understand?

Is the movie Insomnia by Christopher Nolan worth seeing?

I have seen all of Nolan’s other films and have liked them all. I have heard mixed review about Insomnia though.

Remedy For Insomnia: NEED help with stress-induced insomnia?

My ex has been having problems with sleep for the past year. I don’t get to see her because she lives far away, but I know this is taking a toll on her life. I worry about it, knowing there is nothing I can do. Details: She is an 19 year old female who claims the cause of insomnia to be stress. Some nights she will lay in bed for a few hours and go into thought, but sleep never comes as it does for normal people naturally. Anyone have similar experience in this field? Is it always stress, or could it be something like a hormonal imbalance? What method should she take to reduce her stress? Any pills or herbal remedies that help?
